Marriage
licenses are issued by the Circuit Court Clerk of any city or county in the
Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Marriage License Application process has been automated in the
Clerk's Office. Application Forms are available on the Public
Access Terminals in our Customer Waiting Area.

Out-of-state-residents may apply at any Circuit Court
Clerk’s Office in the Commonwealth.
·
Both
parties must be present in order to obtain a marriage license.
·
No
blood tests or witnesses are required.
·
A
picture ID and social security
number/DMV control number or visa/passport number are required.
·
The
fee for the license is $30.00. Cash, Checks and MasterCard or Visa are
acceptable.
·
The
minimum age is 16 years old for the bride or groom (§20-48) ;
however; anyone under the age of 18 must have written, notarized consent from a
parent or their legal guardian (§20-49) .
·
The
Marriage Commissioner is available during business hours to perform the
ceremony. The Commissioner’s fee is
$50.00 (cash only). Marriage Commissioners are Cynthia Smith and Sally

The
fee for certified copies of the marriage certificate is $2.50 each.
